I've only recently started improving my blog, and have been all over the place, trying to figure out how to make it work. In my surfing travels, I conveniently came across a number of blogs addressing issues that were very relevant to me.

Roland at Writing In the Crosshairs has an entertaining post on how to grow your followers list
So You Want Followers? Will Rogers fans will love this post.

Elana Johnson has an informative post on Leaving Your Mark Behind. (I've been poaching religiously, Elana. You'd be so proud of me!)

Michael Hyatt has an enlightening article on 10 Ways to Create a Better "About Page" for Your Blog. I never thought about my 'about page'!

Are there any other relevant posts amateurs like myself should look into?

Hey there Cinette! I'm gathering some links to post for newbies like us tomorrow! Great minds think alike (and don't finish the phrase, woman!) ;) I've got two of yours above to read up on - I've already attacked Elana's blog. She's just fantastic!

There's also a DIY MFA I just registered for - it's already started but the post yesterday was about the methods to reveal character, so I registered anyway. The blogger is 'gabi' (she's the pink character on my follow list) - has her MFA and is now sharing. Anyhow, check it out - we might be able to use some of it at the workshop.

Great day to you, Darlin'!

I think your blog looks pretty good. :)

Some people will complain about the white text on a dark background, because it make it difficult for them to read with their poor eyesight. (though I have no problem with dark backgrounds, as my vision is fine)

Also, an About You (w/ your picture/avatar) toward the top of the page is nice and lend a personal touch.
Keep your followers widget up high like it is now, so we don't have to scroll down to follow. (you're perfect with it where it is....just don't scoot it down by putting a lot of stuff above it.)

Most of all...have FUN! It's your blog. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I've considered changing the background; it certainly limits the text colors. And I've been playing around with placings of everything; I don't want it too cluttered either.
Thanks for the tips, and for stopping by. It's all much appreciated!

Those are great resources! I think the best advice I could give--from my own trial and error--would be to make sure you are yourself. At least your best self. Ha, ha. :o) Be as genuine and kind as you can be and people will come.

Also, join as many blog hops and fests as you can. :o) I know a lot people gain followers this way!

So good to have "met" you, Cinette!

Elana is one of the best resources, for sure. Jen Daiker at Unedited (just Google her) and Alex Cavanaugh also have some great posts this week! Check them out, if you haven't already.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, too! :)

Serendipity! Yes. So wonderful. Good luck on your blogging adventure. I like the way your page looks. Dark red is very powerful.

Thanks for the visit to the Write Game. Appreciated your stopping by.

Joanna at Creative Pen helped me out when first blogging. Her free book on Social Networking as well as podcast interviews were really helpful.

I'll have to go visit Michael Hyatt's post . . . I'd never thought about the "about" page either. Thanks for the links!
